Nomination was submitted by her administrative team, with the following:

"Nikki is an exceptional special education teacher and serves the children of La Farge Middle and High School. Nikki knows each of her students deeply and has their best interest, growth, and achievement in the forefront of her mind at every juncture. Nikki is a strong communicator and collaborates with students on their success. Nikki has led an effort in our secondary schools to raise expectations for all students, including students with disabilities. Nikki is not shy about her advocacy for students with exceptional needs, and has initiated some important conversations among her team regarding inclusion, grading, response to intervention, and specially designed instruction. Nikki was faced with significant challenges this year as a case manager across seven grade levels and two schools, and a rapidly fluctuating case load. Throughout, Nikki remained positive, present, and communicative. Her care and attention to her students shows in their growing skills and achievements, and their ability to overcome challenges. Nikki's leadership has changed the way that students with disabilities are educated school-wide."
