The Geometry class is starting to learn about writing proofs. For an introduction to proofs, the class completed an activity using UNO cards to explain the steps to get from the starting card to the end card. The students had to figure out the correct pattern with the cards and then give a reason for each card change. This is a great introduction of proofs in a hands-on way for the students to develop the skills on providing reasons for each step they are taking. Each group of students were given a different set of cards and had to work together to find the pattern and give reasons.

The 6th and 7th graders often do a math warm up at the beginning of class. The warm up today was finding problems for a given solution. An answer was put up on the white board and students would write their own math problems on sticky notes. The sticky notes were then placed under the appropriate answer to the problem they created.

Elementary physical education is working on a throwing and catching unit. This game, called BOOM CITY is a game that encourages students to practice their overhand and underhand throwing cues. Once they make a catch, they jump off the mat and slam the ball yelling, “BOOM CITY!” Then, grab a bean bag point from their opposite teams bin and take it back to their side and switch roles from catching to throwing or blocking. It’s a high energy game that everyone enjoys.
Come cheer on the #4 seeded Wildcats as they take on the #5 seeded Falcons in the first round of regionals tonight at 7pm.
Second grade recently completed our first big writing project of the year. We wrote some amazing realistic fiction stories. Students had to decide the characters, setting, events, problem, and solution for their stories. They had to use proper spelling, handwriting, and describing words. When they were finished, we displayed a copy in the hall and read them aloud to the class.
